Discoloration across the left hand side of my U2312HM

Hi,

My Dell U2312HM monitor is having a problem. I bought it in January 2013. It started to show green color tint on the left hand side and pixellation as well. I have ran the BID test and it looks like the following pictures, a noticeable green discoloration on the left hand side. The serial number of my monitor is CN-02GFKN-74445-2CA-AWSL, and the revision number is A00. The monitor is connected with my Macbook pro 2009 by displayport for daily use, and my mac is running OS X 10.9.4. I would appreciate if you can give me some information on troubleshooting or what should I do to get my monitor fixed. Thank you so much.

This is probably a simple answer, and as such a kind of dumb question, but I can't figure it. I have a Dell 1905FP monitor than is running at 1. Analog Input 1024 x 768 and I want it to go to the native, optimum resolution of 1280 x 1024. How do I get the monitor to switch?

Thanks, Ethan

U2413 hardware calibration methodology and results

$

After reading through existing threads and playing around with HW calibrating my U2413 for the last three days I'd like to share my methodology and results. I was quite new to all this and although there's some great information around from people far more knowledge than me (most of the info below has already been stated by others) it hasn't been exactly a walk in the park :-)

System: Windows 8.1 x64 bit, nVidia GTX 670, U2413 A00
Dell Ultrasharp Color Calibration Solution (DCCS) tool, 1.0.1

Note 1: Initially I had problems getting DCCS to recognise my monitor at all and I blamed Windows 8.1. However, after a fresh installation it worked without a problem. Maybe it was because I first install i1profile and then DCCS - don't do it in this order.
Note 2: After installing DCCS I installed the latest i1Profiler (1.5.0) which would also replace the i1 SDK. I didn't have any problems but I doubt DCSS has been officially certified to use a different SDK.
Note 3: DCCS would crash if I had the monitor's USB 3.0 hub connected to a USB 3.0 port (go figure) USB 2.0 worked fine
Note 4: DCCS would also crash if you factory reset the monitor / change color space profile after it has launched (go figure)
Note 5: DCCS would also fail to find the device occasionally but this is due to the xrite service process mysteriously dying - a PC restart would fix this

My methodology:

1. Dissociate all associated ICC profiles initially and also between runs (I very much hope these are ignored at calibration time, but I wanted to play it safe).
2. Factory reset the monitor (I read DCCS would not clean the LUT data from previous calibrations)
3. Force the i1 SDK to use RG Phosphorus EDR data. This is based on different posts I have read around here and although one would think the EDR is hardcoded in DCCS I decided to play it safe. The guidance I saw said to add a mapping in C:\ProgramData\X-Rite\Dell UltraSharp Color Calibration Solution\displayTechTypes.xml which had to be created as DCCS does not do it:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<DisplayList>

<Display Mfr="AC10" Model="A046" Key="DELF046" Type="18" Name="DELL U2413" Comment=""/>

</DisplayList>

Where: Mfr=AC10 (Dell), Model=A046 (U2413), Key=DELF046 (panel unique ID?), Type=18 (use RG Phosphorus EDR) - n.b. that model and key may differ among variants, but the value can be found in C:\Users\<User_name>\AppData\Roaming\X-Rite\Dell Color Calibration\Logger\Logger.txt when DCSS is first run.

However, I wasn't sure that would be enough since there was an additional entry in that log file: INFO  Monitor Type: 8 which meant that the monitor was still being detected as Wide Gamut CCFL. Therefore I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\X-Rite\Devices\i1d3\Calibrations, backed up WGCCFLFamily_07Feb11.edr and then copied RG_Phosphor_Family_25Jul12.edr in its stead.

It very much could be that none of this is needed though and if it is Dell need to fire whoever is in charge of software QA ;-)

4. Start DCSS. Initially I was using Custom mode, but then figured the target white point is D65 anyway, and for sRGB there isn't a way to specify sRGB gamma (which hopefully is the case using the sRGB preset, but maybe I'm just wishfully thinking here). Anyway, I didn't have a need to use Custom so eventually i reverted to using the presets. Note that DCCS does change your current CAL profile number on launch so make sure the right one is selected in the OSD before you click Start.

Personally I calibrated CAL1 to Native and CAL2 to sRGB.

Afterwards I used dispcalGUI and Argyll to verify the profiles. A mistake I did a few times was that although I imported the RG Phosphorus EDR data I didn't select it under 'Correction' so my reds had a huge  error ;-) Also, dispcalGUI loads the OS default ICC so I had to switch them manually before starting it.

Anyway, here are the results I got:

Native: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28406605/native.html

sRGB: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28406605/srgb.html

(Ignore the luminescence, I have to still figure out which one works for me - I find 120 a tad too low)

The results look good to me and so does the onscreen result! One thing to note: calibrating native 3 times with the Native preset resulted in white point delta of 11 due to R/G imbalance. I went for custom using the EDID RGB/white point coordinates and now white point delta is 0.45! So I'd avoid the preset personally.

Hope this is useful and if you have any tips let me know.

U2414H DisplayPort Daisy Chain / MST Resolution: How I fxed it (workaround)!

Dear topic readers, Hi folks,

Last days I've spent some time setting up my 3 Dell U2414H's in Daisy Chain / MST mode.

I've had the same issues as people in this topic: U2414H DisplayPort Daisy Chain/MST Resolution Issue.

For me it turns out the monitors weren't detected correctly, so Windows uses a "Default Monitor", however, for some reason, this monitor will be set to a resolution of 1600x1200, this causes the U2414H to turn into "power saving" mode because it can't handle the -too- high resolution.

Ive managed to fix this problem by changing the resolution of the "Default Monitor" from 1600x1200 to 1920x1080.

Below the workaround that I've used to get my configuration working.

Sorry for my lack of English, my native language is Dutch.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The workaround below contains Windows Registry mods and can serious damage your PC!
Only apply this workaround when you really know what you're doing!
Neither Dell, nor I are responsible if you're messing up your PC!

First of all, we need to make some system changes to Windows, so we must run every program we need in Administrator mode.

1)     Click the Windows orb (a.k.a. Start Button) and type cmd, then Right click the cmd.exe result and select [Run as Administrator]

Now we're gonna use some "Easter Eggs" in Windows.

Lets's tell Windows to show it's "disconnected" Devices.

2)     Enter the following commands and press [Enter] after every command

> set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
> devmgmt.msc

Don't close this window.

Windows device manager will be started but the "disconnected" devices are not visible yet, to fix this, take the following steps:

3)     Click [View] followed by [Show hidden devices], so this item will show a checkmark.

4)     Open the [Monitors] section, this is possibly a mess, like this

As you can see, there are (possibly) a lot of hidden [Generic Non-PnP Monitor] entries.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Other guides on the internet describe to remove ALL hidden entries, here's my advise:
DON'T! Please read on to see why.

Now we have confirmed that Windows was not able to setup (every) screen correctly, we're gonna tell Windows to apply the right settings, next time it doesn't recognize the monitor(s).

5)     Switch back to the elevated command window and enter the following command:

> regedit

6)     The Windows registery editor will be started, find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY\Default_Monitor

This entry contains one or more sub entries with a long number as name:

Keep the regedit window open and switch back to the device manager window, position the windows aside to see wat happens.

Start removing the hidden [Generic Non-PnP Monitor] entries in device manager one-by-one, you'll see that the child entries from [Default_Monitor] in regedit are also disappearing (Maybe you have to focus the regedit window and press F5 to refresh the entries manually).
Repeat this step until you have only one entry remaining, if available the only connected and visible [Generic Non-PnP Monitor].

It's important to keep at least one [Generic non-PnP Monitor] to make sure Windows will communicate to the monitor(s) at the right resolution to prevent the monitor to go into "power saving" mode.

7)     Switch to the regedit window and open the [DeviceParameters] entry of the (first and only) [Default_Monitor] child entry

As you can see, there is a key named BAD_EDID, so, if Windows is not able to get the monitor's EDID, it will fall back to this entry.

Now, take a look at the [Device Parameters] key. There can be two situations (8A or 8B)

8A)     The (grand)child entry is named the wrong resolution, e.g. 1600,1200, we have to rename it.

Right click the entry with the wrong resolution, e.g. 1600,1200 and click [Rename].
Now change the name to 1920,1080

8B)     There is no child entry, so we have to create it

Right click the [Device Parameters] entry, click [New] followed by [Key].
Now enter the name MODES.

Richt click the created [Modes] entry, click [New] followed by [Key] and enter the name 1920,1080.

If you have alreay some DELAXXX entries, make sure that every entry with the wrong resolution is changed to the right one: 1920,1080

OK, That's it.

Let's see if it worked

Now try to turn your displays on and off (in different order) and try to restart your PC (multiple times).

In my case, with 3 U2414H's in Daisy Chain mode my results are:

09)     Device manager:

10)     Windows display setup:

11)     Intel DisplayPort topology (sorry it's in Dutch)

12)     Regedit

Good to know:

Make sure the last monitor in the Daisy Chain is set to DisplayPort 1.2: OFF!

Also good to know:

There is a possibility that you will see more entries aside of [Default_Monitor] and [DELA0A3].

According to the Dell display driver, this are the enumerations used by Dell:

HDMI1 - DELA0A4
HDMI2 - DELA0B2
DisplayPort - DELA0A2
miniDisplayPort - DELA0A3

So if you have connected your monitor another way, you will see entries of this connection as well.

When using another input port on your monitor to configure your DisplayPort (DaisyChain, MST) setup, make sure to unplug this port before entering DisplayPort mode. It look likes the monitor is reporting the same ID on all ports, so Windows can be confused when it detects the same ID on both DP as e.g. HDMI.

Conclusion

This is what worked for me. I hope to help you people by sharing this experience and maybe some Dell technicians can use this information to reproduce the problem and fix it permanently..

U2713H and Dell X-Rite calibration software

Hello,

I am not good in english. Iread a lot of info in this forum espacially Yumichan and some others. I have u2713h A00 04 since February 2014, PC,Windows7 familial, nvidia quadro K600, displayport, all recent drivers for dell monitor, X-Rite displaypro. Color management panel all set as it should (use windowa calibration enable etc.)

When I made a hardware cal1 or cal2 with Dell calibration software 1.5.3 for dell UP3014 (172meg zip file) does it work for my monitor or should I use the software for dell u2713H (62mg zip file) ?

When I swicht from adobe preset in OSD menu with his icm file as default in the color management panel to cal1 must I change for the icm file specially created for this preset in the color management panel? When I do so it seems to change the color and when I make a quality check with the X-Rite device everything goes wrong ?

Any thoughts?

Also if aI calibrate the adobe preset in OSD menu at D65, 120cdm Lut table v4 profile etc I have much better result than with the same on the hardware cal1 option with Dell software. I am desapointed because I am amateur but not souneducated. I choose Dell for this hardware capability because I can not pay for NEC PA271Q or Eizo one.

It is frustrating .

My UP2414Q on MacPro has issues too

Hi,

My UP2414Q also has issues on my Mac Pro. I tried the call center before but it's impossible to get them to send me the A01 revision (I still  have the A01 which I bought 1 month ago). And all I have found here in the forums is that since Dell don't test in Mac, pretty much there's nothing to do.

I also used the twitter account @Dellcares as everybody else has been dealing with the exchanges through them instead of the Call center in India, but they also don't seem to help other than refer to documents that suggest that the Mac Pro is not the right hardware (which is not true).

All the PC users seem to be able to get the new revisions, but the few Mac users are left to our own devices.

Can someone please just give us the right answer on where to get the Rev A01? I will end up returning the product and going elsewhere.

After repeatedly unplugging and plugging the DP cables from the dock, EVENTUALLY I get a spanned display across the two monitors. I am not able to establish and repeatable and consistent unplugging/plugging sequence that resolves this. Obviously my display adapter settings are correct since it works eventually. Why does monitor not 1 simply power on to the login screen and then the second monitor come up after log in to the spanned display? Over $5000 spent on a system, playing the plug puzzle every morning is not an acceptable solution.

2314T Mac compatible??

Hi, I just got through on the chat with customer service and was told that the 2314T touchscreen was mac compatible. I was looking through the specs and the drivers and haven't found anything regarding mac compatibility. The rep seemed quite intent on selling me the monitor and so I'm suspicious that they just said yes to get me to buy it... Ive been looking for one that would work almost regardless of size because it has been impossible to find. I just want to know the truth, I don't want to buy 4 of them just to find out that it doesn't work and have to return them.

Just a simple question here from everyone. As a 3 year owner of 2 Dell monitors and a pretty brand new unused Alienware desktop, this is my first time posting. I would just like to know if I could just delete previous ddmset-up updates from En-tech that I have been getting from time to time. The updates started with ddmset-up 1360 and I just happened to received another update for ddmset-up 1470. Is it safe to delete the previous ddmset-up updates without jeopardizing the very latest one?

PS3 to Dell 2209wa Monitor Display Problem

Hi, so I today I tried to connect my ps3 to my dell 2209wa monitor. I used a female hdmi to male DVI-D dual link adapter.
The problem is that I cannot see anything on the screen. I've tried the ps3 video resets but the monitor either is all black or doesn't detect the input, and yes the monitor is HDCP compliant so no issue there. Also the adapter works and hdmi cable work since i tested them both. I am genuinely confused at this point and don't know what else to do. Please help.
