I recently purchased, from Dell, a second monitor, E1914H, to be used with my Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series which is running Windows 8. Also purchased from Dell.
When initially connected, the monitor worked fine. The next morning, when I turned my laptop on the monitor immediately went into power saving mode. When any button on the front of the monitor is tapped the message states "There is no signal coming from your Computer. Press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse to wake it up." Doing this does not wake it up.
Another weird thing is that if the monitor is connected to the laptop when I turn the laptop on, it will not go beyond the blue start up screen. When I disconnect the monitor, it immediately responds and continues to boot. Additionally, if the laptop is on when I do connect the monitor, the icons at the bottom of my desktop get very little and unusable.
The monitor has worked since that initial connection, but only about 20% of the time. The VGA/HDMI adapter was purchased through Amazon because the one our Dell sales rep recommended and sent was a mini HDMI, which didn't work. He did not respond to our emails about this being the wrong adapter and the time limit to return it to Dell passed. So, I used Amazon to make the purchase. I have disconnected and reconnected the cables and power plug many times. I have reset to default settings. I am not sure if this is an adapter issue or a Windows 8 issue. I don't think it is a monitor issue because I tried all of the "test" to make sure it works.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks.
