I have a 3 monitor setup, 3x U2414H because of this I use 3 meter HDMI cables, you need some longer cables in a 3 monitor setup. 2 cables with a DVI to HDMI block and one HDMI to HDMI Cable. It works just fine but the monitors will not enter sleep mode, they act like the cable is unplugged and a 5 min popup showing the monitors will go into standby/powersaving mode.
Now if I use a 1 meter HDMI cable it will go into standby, if I use a 3 meter cable it will not.
So you think bad HDMI cable. I Have tried 9 different HDMI cables and all failed. The only cable that works is the short HDMI Cable.
I checked the cables and all 19 pins are connected. I also did a small experiment and used a old Dell 1704 FPT monitor with the same 3 meter cable using a HDMI to DVI adapter block. It works perfectly, and the monitor enters the standby mode.
I tried daiychaining via DP 2.1 but then I get hickups, the system hangs sometimes for 2 seconds and the frame rate is not consistent. Even when you drag the mouse a gross the screen you can see that the frame rate is not consistent so DP is not a option.
I installed the dell display manager. I think it communicates via the DDC data display channel and it works fine. The standby command is also given via the DDC right?
To recap:
1 meter HDMI cable works 3 meter no standby.
all cables work with old dell 1704 FPT monitor using same system.
Dell display manager works just fine, monitors are detected just fine by the system and Nvidia controll panel.
I just don't know what to try next. Is there a service mode that allows me to set the timeout timer from 5 minutes to lets see 5 seconds?
Kind regards Sebastian,
