What monitors work best with MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) and MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013)

Hi all, 

I have two mac laptops - a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) and a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013). I'd like to know which monitor would work best with them. Specifically, I read somewhere that the new UltraSharp Monitors can not work with my computers. Is that true? If so, what other series can I use?
