I recently purchased a Precision M4800 laptop computer (Windows 7 x64) with an UltraSharp 24 monitor. The monitor is not working properly with the computer. When I open a program and a new window appears, it is often only partially visible or halfway obscured by other windows. I must switch between windows back and forth in order to view the entire window. Sometimes this does not work and I must drag the window in order to see it in its entirety. This problem does not occur every time for every window, but happens quite frequently.
I am using a DP cable to attach the monitor to the laptop. If I take the same cable and attach it to an older laptop (I have a Dell XPS-16 with Windows 7 x64) the monitor works fine without any problems. Therefore, the problem cannot be simply a bad monitor.
My video drivers are showing that they are current. This includes an AMD FirePro M5100 FireGL V and an Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600. I have also installed the drivers for the monitor.
I have a service ticket open with Dell. We have already replaced the video card and the motherboard and this has not solved the problem. The next step suggested is to re-install the operating system. However, this appears to me to be yet another shot in the dark. Before I do this, I wanted to see if anyone has any light they could shed on this problem.
Thanks,
Bill E.
