I have an Inspiron Desktop 3847 which was purchased in early 2015. Video outputs are (1) VGA and (1) HDMI only. What are my options for hooking up two monitors and using the extended desktop feature in Windows?
I've already made the mistake of purchasing (2) U2414H 's which will not work. There are no VGA inputs on them even though Dell's online specs. said there were. I was planning on using one HDMI cable for one monitor and one VGA cable for the other. Is that even possible if I can return these two monitors and get two more each with VGA and HDMI inputs?
In attempt to make these monitors work I also tried purchasing an upgraded graphics card with DisplayPort output but it requires 75W of power in a six pin connector and I from what I can see I don't have enough power in my system or the six pin plug that is required.
I never thought it would be this difficult to set up two monitors. Basically I just want to start over and purchase two monitors that will work with my current system. I don't mind installing another simple graphics card if necessary. Maybe I should just get one with HDMI and run the two monitors from the new graphics card and the motherboard's HDMI output, but I probably have to choose one or the other. Is that correct?
Any help would be appreciated.
