I'm posting this to assist others who have had connection issues with a multi-monitor configuration. I've been struggling for weeks to figure this out, and finally have a solution (I know there have been others posted, but I haven't seen this one.).
My Dell is the Venue Pro 11 7130, with the "refurbished" A01 Pro Dock... the one that was automatically sent to replace the original dock. My Displayport slot has not been usable, I believe due to the age of my monitors being older than the current standard of HDCP. [My Acer V193W ejbd has the original HDCP standard, and my HP vs17e is pure analog.]
SO... here's what has worked for my dock [and actually has resulted in two external monitors plus my tablet screen]:
1. USB [via IOGear DisplayLink USB/VGA adapter] AND HDMI [with output to DVI-D via single cable, or VGA via plug n play adapter... either/both work]
2. HDMI and HDMI... I used the HDMI-to-DVI cord, from dock to ACER monitor, and then used the mini-HDMI to HDMI converter cable [plugged into the tablet directly] connected to the HDMI/VGA plug n play adapter.
[This method did not register immediately, so I switched back to the HDMI/DVI and USB/VGA configuration, and from there swapped the VGA cable from the USB adapter to the HDMI adapter, leaving the USB cord in the dock until after the screens registered. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with my success, but figured it's worth mentioning.]
I hope this helps.
