I bought my U3415W from Amazon a few months ago and have been having a very strange problem ever since. I use my PC primarily for gaming, mostly games on Steam.
Prior to my U3415 purchase, I was using a 24" Dell widescreen LCD and had ZERO problems with my PC crashing and locking up, period.
Ever since installing the U3415, my PC will lockup and/or reboot while playing certain games. The games that cause the computer to crash/reboot are basically unplayable because the problem persists and is easily repeatable. Most other games do not cause me any trouble.
I connected the U3415 to my Nvidia GTX970 using the supplied DP to mDP cable. The mDP end of the cable that plugs into the display seems loose so I bought a new cable (DP to DP) to eliminate the mDP port from the equation. That did not help, the same games are crashing while using the DP to DP cable.
The crashing/rebooting problem persists while using an HDMI cable as well so the problem does not appear to be with the Display Ports.
The other time that my computer crashes is when I update my GeForce drivers using the "NVIDIA GeForce Experience" application from my task bar. I've updated my graphics drivers five times since installing my U3415 and eveyr time the screen goes black and the computer is non-responsive. I have to power off the computer and receive the "Your computer was not shut down properly" error message. Fortunately when Windows finally boots, the new drivers are installed and I do not have any further issues until the next time I install new NVIDIA drivers. One of these days I'm going to end up with a corrupt file system because this monitor is causing my PC to lockup and reboot without shutting down cleanly!
My PC is rock-solid with my old 24" Dell connected using a DVI cable. What could be causing this? Is there anything that I can check or test to help determine why my computer is so unstable while using the Dell U3415W?
