So I called Dell (Netherlands) to report my problem. One or both displays will not work when the Surface is rebooted or when the Surface wakes up from sleep. This problem does not occur every time, but when it does, I have to unplug the power cord from one or both display(s). In some cases I also have to disable display port 1.2 in the menu of the first monitor in order to get MST/Daisychain to work again.

Dell Netherlands responded that I probably do not have the right video card or my system is not up to date. They send me this link: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/DrivingMultipleDisplaysFromaSingleDisplayPort.aspx

I told them that I do have the required hardware and my Surface is up to date. I am not the only one with this problem and the problem may have something to do with the firmware version of the U2414H display. Mine both have A01 and according to people in the Dell community A03 should solve this problem. They then replied that Dell does not act on community discussions.

I called Dell well within the 30 day grace period and I think Dell should replace the units with A03 versions. What can I do next? Maybe anyone at Dell is willing to send me the right instructions in order to get replacements.

Arjan
