U2413, Ultrasharp calibration solution fails to connect to display via USB

Dell U2413 SN: CN-0YCM0F-72872-48P-A81L  REV A01 Aug 2014

Trying to run the Dell ultrasharp calibration solution V1.5.3 on this monitor, however, the software always stops and displays "Please connect the display to your computer via USB cable." I click the OK button after checking that the computer USB port is connected to the monitor USB connection but eventually this message appears:
"Failed to establish connection to the display. Please make sure that the USB cable is connected and try again."

Attempted this on two different computers running Windows 8.1 Pro. One was connected to the monitor using a HDMI to DVI cable (Thinkpad 10 via docking station) the other using the Dell supplied Display Port to mini display port cable (Thinkpad X230 tablet).

The USB ports on the computers were connected via the Dell supplied USB 3 cable to the monitor. Also tried this on one computer using a USB 2 port and a USB cable with the same result. The USB connections on the monitor appear to work ok when plugging in a flash drive or the i1 Display Pro. Also did a Monitor USB reset and checked that Windows saw the additional Generic hubs when the monitor USB was connected to the computer. There were 4 additional hubs when using the USB 3 cable and 2 additional usb hubs when using the USB 2 cable. Also, power cycled the monitor a few times (as recommended in the release noted for this problem) without success.

Prior to the attempt to do the calibration:
Did a factory reset on the monitor.
Ran the monitor Self-test and the BID. No issues found.
Monitor purchased from Dell November 2014

Same result with V1.5.7

Any suggestions? Where should I go from here?
