In addition to my two Dell computers, I also happen to have a Lenovo desktop running Windows 8 64-bit, now attached to a Dell 3007WFP. The video card is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 620, driver version 9.18.13.697 which comes from the latest nVidia 306.97 installation. The NVIDIA Control Panel shows a max native resolution for the 3007WFP of 1280x800. I can "customize" the display to force it to 2560x1600, but then it looks horrible and obviously isn't using the monitor properly.
The NVIDIA card came with the Lenovo desktop, so of course I called Lenovo. They claim that the problem is that Dell hasn't supplied a monitor driver for Windows 8 and that is the problem. It's an easy enough claim to make since Dell doesn't appear to have ever provided a monitor driver for the 3007WFP or even for the 3008WFP.
I realize there is the whole single link vs. dual link issue with DVI cables, but the monitor properly displays 2560x1600 using the same cable when connected to another computer. If it matters, the GeForce GT 620 has an HDMI port (not a DVI port) so I am connecting through a male HDMI to female dual-link DVI adapter.
So is there truth to the Lenovo claim that Dell is at fault here and isn't supporting Windows 8 on their 30-inch monitors? That would not be good if all Dell 30 inch monitors were incompatible with Windows 8.
