U3014, Rev 3, Mac, Sometimes Goes Into "Deep Sleep" and Won't Wake Up

I'm the proud (?) owner of a U3014 rev 3 30 inch monitor (W1202U3014OJP, the Japanese version), and like several people I'm having an issue with the monitor going into "zombie mode" and not waking up...ever.

My setup is, an (not supported by Dell)  Mac connected to Display-port (or Mini DP, I have both cables), and a PC connected to HDMI (I love the new 1.4 standard that supports full resolution). It works well most of the time, the monitor's visuals are great, and I can usually switch between the Mac and PC successfully.

HOWEVER, sometimes the monitor can't see one of the computers, either due to some weirdness or because the monitor isn't hooked up yet, and it goes into "deep sleep" mode to save power. It certainly saves me lots of power, since the monitor becomes unusable, ignoring all control panel buttons, not powering up if I hold the monitor button, and so on.

The only thing that will get my monitor working is apparently, unplugging not only the power but EVERY other port plugged in, which means two video cables, USB, and audio. It's not fun since these are very hard to put back in.

Can anyone tell me if there's a fix for the monitor's deep sleep bug, and if there's another way to force the monitor to boot up (hard boot, whatever)? I'm pretty sure Dell won't take the monitor back since I've had it for six months and all the monitors probably have this kind of problem, or others if not this. I'd love it if somene could help me get this working better.
