I purchased a Dell U3014 monitor about 7-8 months ago and it has been working fine. Last week I thought I would just check for any recommended driver/firmware updates on dell's site and found that there two tools that came up with my service tag so I thought I would give them a try. One was "DDM Monitor Application" and the other is" Dell XRITE Monitor Application". I installed both of these - the DDM Monitor Application is pretty useful but the Dell XRITE did not work because when I went to try it, the program needed a physical tool that I don't have however before I got to that point it already did some kind of reset using the USB cable on the monitor.
Soon after installing these I noticed my monitor would go to sleep and would not wake back up when I moved my mouse or press the power button on the computer. I hear the computer turn on but the monitor continues in sleep mode. I noticed if I press the power button on the monitor to turn it off and then back on the monitor resumes normally. So right now when my computer comes out of sleep I need to basically move the mouse, wait a couple seconds, then press the power button on the monitor twice.
It almost seems like the issue started when I ran XRITE calibration software and it did the "reset". There was nothing really to indicate that this tool needed a 3rd party device for color calibration until after I downloaded it, installed it, started it, ran the "reset", and then it notified me. I thought it was just something I did visually when downloading it. There should be a message before downloading or when install that "this program requires XRITE calibration hardware".
Does the monitor need warranty service? Anything I can try?
Performed the following to try and repair it (nothing works so far)
-reset monitor with the monitor menu
-rebooted, and re-powered everything.
-unplugged and re-plugged in the cables
Configuration
-Monitor is Rev. 2 (Dell Ultrasharp U3014)
-OS is windows 8.1 Pro
-Video card is AMD Radeon HD 7700
-Using the DVI-DL that came with the monitor
Thank you.
