I own both a 2013 June MacBook Air and a Samsung Series 9 np900x3e. Both are obviously high end laptops. Neither will drive the U2713HM which my boss kindly purchased at full resolution (2560x1440).
I have purchased a large number of different cables.
The Samsung has two video connectors:
A proprietary vga adapter. As far as I can tell the max resolution there is 2048x1152 so I did not bother with that.
A micro HDMI connector. I purchased a microHDMI to HDMI adapter, and it will drive the monitor at a max of 1920x1080. I understand now that the HDMI input on the monitor only supports HDMI 1.3, which cannot drive its native resolution of 2560x1440.
The MacBook Air
has a mini display port adapter. I purchased the mini display port to display port cable and plugged this in. At 2048x1152 it works, but of course looks awful due to non-native resolution. At native resolution, the screen displays the right 3/4 of the screen as plain green and the left one quarter as a squashed version of my desktop. I took the laptop to apple and they have no dell monitors to test with. They tested with their own screens at 2560x1440 and it of course worked perfectly
Can anyone recommend a solution to either of these problems? These are two of the highest end ultrabooks on the market and neither will drive this screen at its native resolution.
