I just purchased two U2713H monitors. I'm using the mini displayport to displayport cable that came with the monitor to hook up to my Surface 2 Pro Dock.
I'm having the same exact symptoms other customers are having, some times I can get my monitors to display windows 8.1, other times they are black and in power saving mode. Very frustrating.
I've updated to the dell drivers recommended in other posts.
I've even purchase a new mini displayport cable. No help.
I just spent over $1,800 to two monitors that only display black screens and go into power saving mode.
I had reset the monitor, tried disconnecting all wires, pressed and held the power button for 3 seconds, no help.
When I connect the monitor to the Dock mini displayport Windows recognizes the monitor, I can see it in the Windows Resolution screen. It knows its a Dell U2713H, and sees the correct optimal display resolution. Yes the desktop has been extended to this monitor.
But still the monitor is black in power saving mode.
If I adjust the monitor resolution to a lower resolution "sometimes" the will come on, then I can adjust it back to optimal and the screen functions fine until I reboot or sleep the computer. Then this trick may or may not bring the monitor back to life.
