Can I calibrate my Dell Monitor

I am an artist and I take pictures of my work, transmit them to many people and publish them on my web site. I would like to calibrate the monitor so the images I see and transmit bear a resemblance to the actual art. I know the best reproduction method around is to use a professional photographer and/or scanner and have giclee prints made. Ive  done this for a few images that are big sellers but dont have the funds to do this for the majority of my work.

I have a decent camera and currently dont take pictures using the RAW mode and frankly Im not sure how to do that. I take pictures in nice noon light with a timer and without the flash.

Currently I have a Dell laptop, model XPS 1330...I know, its a relative dinosaur. I run Windows XP on the laptop and use Google Chrome as my browser. Ive attached my 15" Dell monitor to the laptop since the screen on the laptop is quite small. I used to have this monitor attached to my desktop. The monitor is also a relative dinosaur.  The numbers on the back include REVA99, CN-0G6566-42804-4AN-U10X and DP/N0G6566. I dont really know which if any of these represent the model number.

Is there a relatively simple way to calibrate this monitor so the colors, light, darks, and contrast are somewhat accurate to the art? Ive read that the laptop has relatively no calibration. Does this limitation carry over to the monitor?

Any advice is grewatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

David Barnett
