Dell UP3214Q Issues

Hi everyone,

I recently acquired the UP3214Q and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Contrary to other reviews here, the monitor is perfectly calibrated, no bleeding issues or dead pixels. The main issue I have is that I cannot use UP3214Q as single monitor connected to my PC, see below all details.

System Setup
- Dell Studio XPS 9100 990x desktop with an Asus GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 video card
- WIndows 8.1 x64 clean install with latest Nvidia 335,23 drivers installed directly (not from Windows Update)
- Dell UP3214Q monitor connected with provided MiniDP cable into card's DisplayPort
- Dell U2412M monitor connected with Dual DVI cable into card's DVI
- BIOS ACPI is set to S3 (Suspend to RAM)

Keep in mind that this is a fresh Windows install I did yesterday. I installed directly the new Nvidia drivers and after that, I performed a Windows Update followed by a reboot.

2 Monitors Scenario
Everything works properly up to a point, I start the computer and I see the POST on U2412M monitor, then the blue Windows logo shows with the little circle spinning. During this time, the UP3214Q shows no activity but it receives power, looking like it tries to initialize. Then, when the welcome profile page shows, both monitors light up properly and I see the login info on UP3214Q. Somehow, it looks like the UP3214Q cannot get enough power to wake-up properly until the Windows login shows up.

Monitor resolution:

I also noticed random failures to power up the monitors, when the computer is in sleep mode (S3 set in BIOS). This happens only when the PC goes in sleep mode after one hour by itself, it will never wake-up. However, if I place myself manually the PC in sleep mode, everything works as expected and both monitors turn on properly.

1 Monitor Scenario
With UP3214Q being the only monitor connected, when I restart the PC, I can see the BIOS prompt but when I reach the step where the blue Windows logo with circle spinning should show, the monitor does not display anything anymore, while still showing as powered (full light on monitor power button). It stays there doing nothing, I left it for 5 minutes alone... nothing. If I press the power button on computer, it shuts down immediately, like it would do if a POST error shows (keyboard is missing, press F1, etc.).

Conclusion
I'm convinced this is NOT related to monitor hardware but rather the combination between OS, video drivers and MST mode. I plan to eventually use only the UP3214Q connected to my PC. Currently it is impossible, I need to use the U2412M combined with it, or else I cannot use the computer period.

I was wondering if you have any advice on fixing the issue? Do I need to look for a different cable or add an additional cable to allow the monitor provide better connectivity in DST mode? I would also need your advice on what 10 feet cable I should use, I need this length in order to place the monitor to a decent position on my large desk.

Regards,

Floren
