Backlight bleed on Dell U2715H

Hi!

Is this amount of backlight bleed normal for a Dell U2715H Monitor?

It makes working with color sensitive work almost impossible.

Added is picture taken in dark and in daylight. As you can see, te backlight bleed is visible even in daylight.

Also videos taken in the evening and during the day:

U2515H, Intel HD Graphics 4000, HDMI

Hello,

Recently I've bought a new Dell U2515h monitor: Revision A02, manufactured date Jan. 2016.

I connect the monitor to my laptop Acer Travelmate P243m using the HDMI-HDMI cable.

In the laptop I've replaced Intel Celeron B820/830 processor with Intel I5-3210m, which comes with integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000.

OS used on the laptop is 64-bit Windows 10.

All drivers are up-to-date.

If this information is enough, could I ask you please to guide me through settings to achieve the maximum resolution and video signal quality?

With Intel's software I've created custom profile with following settings:

  • Resolution 2560x1440 (ok, the maximum the monitor can handle)
  • Refresh rate 50Hz (if 55Hz or 60Hz, than error of exceeding max. bandwidth appear. Try 1Hz increment?)
  • Color depth 32 Bit
  • Progressive/interlaced scan - using P is better?
  • Timing: CVT-RB (if GTF or CVT or CEA 861 than error of exceeding max. bandwidth appear)

And these settings work fine and monitor's resolution is 2560x1440 now.

So, there are my questions, please:

  1. How a choice of timing standard influences on video quality on the monitor?
  2. Does CVT-RB (Reduced Black) make black colors look worse? Black screen backlit bleed?
Should I better lower the refresh rate to be able to set GTF or another timing? Which timing?
Or better remain CVT-RB and try increment refresh rate by 1Hz to its maximum possible value?
  3. After finding the maximum possible quality solution for RGB gamut, will choosing a wider gamut (YCbCr) cause the 'exceeding maximum bandwidth' error?

The purpose of using the monitor is photo editing in Photoshop and Lightroom and watching movies (maximum of 1440p run without lags and freezes)

Thank you!

Dell 2408wfp flashing red green blue suddenly

Hi there,

I have owned this monitor for many years without any issues. Suddenly out of the blue the monitor has started flashing red/green/blue etc when it is in power saving mode. It appears this is some kind of factory burn in mode (although i certainly never selected anything like that).

I have tried holding menu, plus and then turning the power on but that doesnt work. How can i stop it from doing this?

Note: i can still change inputs but when i press menu nothing happens.

Also note: i have noticed a verical line appearing on the monitor that goes away once it warms up. Not sure if this is related.

Thanks for any help.

Accidental damage during flight, what now?

Well, I'm asking this question mostly for peace of mind, because I kind of already know that there's not much I can do about it... So, I got this awesome Dell monitor last year (February of 2015) from a Best Buy, model S2415Hb, while I was studying in the US. But on my flight back to Brazil (my home country) the monitor was damaged while inside the bag, the screen cracked a little, and nothing shows up on the screen when I turn it on... I got really upset because I loved this monitor and also because I spent $200 on it...

So, there's not much I can do about it, right? I mean, its warranty won't cover accidental damage, I guess, and I'm in a different country now (no Best Buys around)... Is there anything left for me to do besides buying a new monitor?

Thanks guys!

Insect caught in u2414Hb monitor panel and support is a disaster. No service tag

First the issue I'm attempting to resolve. A small insect, likely a fruit fly managed to work its way into my monitor some how. It became lodged either in the panel, or between the panel and an outer layer and promptly died. And has been stuck in place for over a month. Attempts to dislodge it without disassembling the monitor have failed.

Now AFAIK disassembling the monitor to clear it out will void the warranty, and runs a risk of damaging the monitor so I would prefer to avoid it. I decided to contact dell support or warranty department to see if anything could be done on that end.

The monitor was purchased new from NewEgg.com on 1/1/15, with a stated 3 year manufacturers warranty. So it should still be within the manufacturers warranty period.

However no where on Dells website, or through their phone system can you contact support or warranty departments without a service tag. My monitor does not appear to have a service tag, and Dells own support materials clearly state that stand alone monitors sold before 2016 (like this one, purchased 2015, manufactured 2014) do not always have a service key.

I have tried every number listed on my monitor and its box, both online and with phone support. One number does look up as a service key on the website (though not with phone support) and comes up as a desktop system from 1997

Phone service were terrible. Repeatedly demanding a service key, even when I explained I did not have one. Repeatedly asking me about the Dell computer system I had purchased, despite my clear statement that my issue was with a stand alone monitor and that I did not own a dell computer system. Repeatedly asking me for an order number from Dell, despite my clearly stating it was not purchased from Dell, but bought new from newegg.com. Repeatedly telling me to contact the seller (newegg) to some how get support under a manufacturers warranty. I was told a serial number was useless because millions of people had purchased monitors with that serial number. As if that made any sense at all. I was told a product model could not be used to look up what product I was calling about. I was told none of the numbers listed on my device, or on its original packaging (which I kept) could be looked up in any system. I was transferred to multiple operators in multiple departments who all followed the same script and gave the same spiel about the *** service tag. Before an operator implied I was being dishonest and asked for my phone number. All this despite Dell's support pages clearly stating that some of their products do not have a support key.

There does not seem to be any process at all for dealing with products Dell manufactured and sold without this little number that supposedly so critical. Dell can not apparently do anything with the simple model # and serial # that every other manufacturer in the world uses

SO. Just exactly how do I make any contact with customer service without a service key.

And can anything be done about the dead bug that has lodged itself in the center of my screen as a little, brown blotch? Or am I stuck risking the destruction of my monitor with a voided warranty? It doesn't seem sensible that an insect should be able to worm its way in between the layers of the screen frankly.

Three U2417H, color calibration without a colorimeter?

$

I just picked up three U2417H and they're working fine. However, two of the panels have a yellow tint to them which is very noticeable when working across 3 screens, especially when there's a light color being displayed

I understand that there likely isn't anything wrong with the panels, but rather monitors can just come from the factory calibrated slightly differently

What is the best way of calibrating the monitors so they all match, without resorting to buying any equipment like colorimeters?

connecting 2 2K monitors (U3014, UP3017) to Precision M4800

Hi all,

I'm trying to get the 2  2K monitors working with the precision M4800.

Monitor 1 (M1) is connected via the display port cable & Monitor 2 (M2) is connected via the the dvi-d dual link cable.

Precision 4800  is docked with Dell E-Port replicator.

Precision M4800 has the following Display Adapters
 - Intel HD 4600 & nVidia Quadro K1100M

M1 shows 2560x1600, but the max resolution on M2 is 1920x1080.

How do I get both monitors to run at 2K resolutions?

This KB article describes the multiple monitor setup options, but it does not list the max resolutions supported for each option.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Serious problem with Dell Monitor SE2716H

$

I bought a Dell Monitor SE2716H (27inch, 16:9) to connect to my laptop.

Last night I connected it to my laptop (using the provided HDMI cable), and the laptop crashed. Now, it seems that the graphic card (or mother board) of my laptop has been permanently damaged, and I don't use the monitor as I am worried that it might further damage the laptop. The problem is that now I can't use my laptop more than 5 minutes, as after a few minutes, the display becomes messed up and the OS reboots itself. I have been running my laptop for two years with no such problem at all, and this problem occurred when I connected it to the Dell monitor for the first time last night.

It's okay to sell a bad monitor, but don't sell a monitor that damages the laptop that it is connected to.

U2715H not running at proper 2560x1440 resolution

I just purchased this computer. http://www.johnlewis.com/hp-envy-phoenix-860-000na-desktop-pc-intel-core-i7-16gb-ram-2tb-128gb-ssd-metal/p2285574

And I have two dell U2715H monitors both capable of displaying full 2560x1440 resolution here - http://www.ebuyer.com/697916-dell-u2715h-27-qhd-hdmi-monitor-210-adsn

Now, unfortunately when I have plugged everything in, only my main monitor which is connected by a display port shows as 2560x1440, where as the other which is connected by HDMI 1.4 only shows 1920x1080 which is obviously not what I want.

UP2414Q Troubles

I purchased a UP2414Q that I could never seem to get working. I finally after 2 weeks of speaking with reps it was replaced. The monitor I was sent stopped working a day after it arrived so I sent it back. After that it took me 1 month to get another replacement which had the same issue.

I turn on the monitor and the display lights up. After 1 day of usage the monitor stops working and will not turn on.

U2913WM monitor wont display at full resolution

$

I just bought a U2913WM monitor. I have an HP Envy 700-050 computer with 1 DVI-D port and 1 DVI-I port. I checked with Intel to see if my on board Intel HD 4000 graphics  would handle the monitor. It can, but I'm onlt getting 1920 X 1080 resolution. I called Dell and they didn't have a clue and told me to call Microsoft. Or they just didn't want to help me. I paid good money for this monitor and would like it to work without buying a new graphics card. I also plugged it into another computer that had a high end graphics card and it pulled the full resolution. So I know the monitor is good. I tried it with a DVI-D to HDMI cable and it still didn't get the full resolution.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

U2414H (Issues) Any other setup that doesn't require daisy chain

I work in an enterprise environment where we have many of these monitors in 4 monitor configurations running on Dell 7010 desktops with Radeon 7000 graphics cards.

In this environment several users, utilize these pc's and configurations, and there are many issues on "all" of the machines where one monitor won't come back up, fails, etc... The users will log in, the monitor will work, and just shut off. OR they will lock their profile, come back, and it's off. It's generally the same monitor.

We have swapped out cables.

We have swapped out monitors.

We have swapped out video cards.

We have turned all the pc options to high performance.

We have put APC's on them and off of them just to make sure they were getting consistent power.

New and old catalyst drivers.

New daisy chain cables.

Used various DisplayPort 1.2 options on the monitor themselves.

Dell actually had to replace these with Revision 03, and the monitors still fail.

I looked on the AMD site and noticed that for me to use the DVI side (because these monitors don't have DVI on them) that I would need a DVI cable to display port that is "ACTIVE". However all of the cables I have found are DisplayPort to DVI (one way) cables. Which means of course, that they will not go from the DVI port on the video card to DisplayPort. We tried one that was offered by AMD and it does not work.

Does anyone else have any other ideas? OR know if there is a DVI to DisplayPort adapter/cables that ARE ACTIVE? Again, DisplayPort to DVI will NOT work.

Trying to find another idea before we get rid of all of our dell equipment.

Thanks

Can't daisy chain U2417H using Latitude E5440 running Windows 10 on E-Port 2 dock

All items purchased directly from Dell.
Latest Windows 10 updates, Intel video, GeForce video (720M), DDM, and U2417H software installed.

These three U2417H monitors connected to this laptop won't work using a DP or mini-DP cable without first disabling DP1.2.

This document indicates Intel i7-4600U supports DP1.2 (software.intel.com/.../quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics)

This document indicates nVidia GT 720m supports DP1.2 (www.geforce.com/.../specifications)

This document indicates the Dell E-Port 2 USB3 dock supports DP1.2, but doesn't explicitly list support for the Latitude E5440 (though it says it's designed for the E5430 & supports the E5450)

Device Manager lists a single U2417H (and the Generic PnP Monitor native notebook screen) in the monitors section, also lists the two aforementioned video cards in the Display adapters section.

I've tried using the DP->miniDP cable included with the Dell monitors, as well as a StarTech DP->DP cable.

Disabling DP1.2 results in only the 1st monitor being detected but still passes through video via the Dell DP->miniDP cables to the other two monitors (all 3 monitors are U2417H).

I've tried disabling DP1.2 on the last 2 monitors and enabling it on the first monitor, but then no monitors display video. Perhaps there's a certain sequence of activating/disabling & plugging/unplugging that needs to occur?

Other than downgrading video drivers, I'm unsure of what else I can do to get these monitors to daisy chain.

Hello,

I have dual Dell U2417H monitors connected to a Dell docking station (E-Port Plus II) using Dell Precision Port Laptop.  The problem I am having is that I am unable to get all three displays working simultaneously.  If I place the computer into projector mode then I can get both external monitors working, but only in that conifguration.

I am looking to get both external and Laptops displays working simultaneously, can you help?  I am currently using the supplied Dell mDP (mini Display Port -  HDMI to mDP interface) cables.
